Paula Rae Swanson, age 79, of Grand Rapids, was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 8, 2026. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Bert and Marian Jelens.
Paula was blessed with an independent spirit and a strong work ethic and approached life with determination, creativity, and a genuine love for those around her. She was a talented architectural interior designer whose artistic vision and attention to detail were evident in the many beautiful homes, golf courses, and other projects she helped design.
Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart, and she treasured the time she spent with them. Over the years, she created many wonderful memories by taking them on special trips and sharing experiences they would carry with them for a lifetime. She also enjoyed going to the beach, where she found time to relax and enjoy the beauty of her surroundings.
She was a loyal and devoted friend, someone who could be counted on and whose friendships were cherished deeply. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, creative talents, strong work ethic, and unwavering loyalty to her friends. Above all, she will be cherished for the love she shared so generously with her grandchildren and family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Nancy (Dirk) Spence, Heidi (Roy) Sittser; grandchildren, Dallen (Jordan) Sittser, Tyler (Allison) Axdorff, Marrisa (John) Schmidt, Shelby (Nick) Burkholder; great-grandchildren, Mason, Peyton, Xander, Kaden, Juliet, and one soon to arrive; sister, Jackie Banaszak; special loving nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a private celebration of life service to honor Paula.
