James Arthur Thatcher

James A. Thatcher, age 82, of Grand Rapids, Michigan returned home on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

James was born in Niles, Michigan. He served with honor in three tours in Vietnam spending 21 years in the Army and 1 year in the Navy. He met his wife Mary Lou in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1966 and they were happily married for 38 years. James was a simple man, enjoying the little pleasures of life. He loved to be outdoors fishing and hunting, spend time with his cherished dogs, and found great pleasure in solitude. 

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Joe and Brian Thatcher; grandchildren, Bryson Knight, Brian Jr., Tyler and Breanna Thatcher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Thatcher (King); parents, 5 siblings. 

In honor of the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and a burial to lay James to rest will be held at Resurrection Cemetery
