Nora (Esther) Mathews, age 68, of Hudsonville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, June 5, 2015. She retired from H.J. Heinz Company after 35 years of faithful service. Nora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who treasured her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Quannah and Ida Langford, sister, Violet Witt; twin brother, Cecil Langford; brother, William Langford; two infant siblings; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irwin and Hazel Mathews, and her sister-in-law, Jody Voss-Mathews. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Basil Mathews Sr.; children and stepchildren, Thomas and Michelle Marsala of Holland, Tonya Mitchel of Muskegon, Eric and Frances Mathews of Holland, Basil Mathews Jr. and Jennifer of Holland; several grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers and sisters, Clyde and Doris Langford of Kentucky, Nellie Inman of Zeeland, Clinton Langford of Kentucky, Cleamon Langford of Kentucky; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry Witt of Kentucky, Maxine Robart of Newaygo, Max and Carol Mathews of Bitely, Dave and Marlene Mathews of Bitely, Tim and Mary Mathews of Ravenna, Sue and Bob Gilbert of Howard City, Marilyn and Randy Ten Hagen of Holland, Steve Mathews of West Olive, Vicky Mathews of Newaygo; and her furry companion, Sadie. Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Wednesday at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (corner of Avery and Scott) 6651 Scott Street, Allendale with Pastor Buford Kelch officiating. Interment Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Holland Rescue Mission or Hospice of Holland.
