Nicholas William Flaherty, age 60, unexpectedly passed away at home in Wyoming, on March 11, 2021. Nick was born November 11, 1960, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Richard “Bill” and Pearl (Henson) Flaherty and graduated from Zeeland High School in 1979. Nick earned an associate’s degree from Davenport University and went on to work in the auto sales industry for several years at RE Barber Ford and then as co-owner of Pro Motors in Zeeland. While growing up, Nick spent every summer at Silver Lake boating and water skiing – he was a daredevil. Nick was also a private pilot and enjoyed taking his family on many trips across the U.S. in their Cessna. He coached several recreation sports teams for his daughters and enjoyed watching them grow. He had a passion for cooking and oftentimes would take numerous unrelated ingredients and create a delicious, gourmet meal. In early 2000, he made a career change and became a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Blacksburg, Virginia. He opened his own branch where he provided financial advice and won several awards and trips all over the world. His favorite places were Australia, France, Spain, Hawaii and Alaska. He moved back to Michigan in 2018 and married Jeri Lynn Alward and they resided together in Wyoming, Michigan. He was a kind, compassionate man and will be remembered for his witty humor, his salesman-like approach to life, his way with words, his tender heart and ability to connect with everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Nick is survived by his wife, Jeri; three brothers, Tim (Jo Ellen) of Lansing, Dan (Marilyn) of Grayling, and Jef (Muriel) of Zeeland; his sister, Kitty Flaherty (Ken Smith) of Mears; his daughters, Erin (Gary) Stark of New Era, and Carly (Joe) Moore of Denver, Colorado; his beloved grandchildren, Annabelle, Brennen, and Brady Stark, Sullivan, and Raegan Moore; his stepchildren, Kelli (Kevin) Holtsclaw, and Andrew (Lexie) Wiltjer; and grandchildren, Maddie, Aiden, Braxton, and Kolbie James. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pearl. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nick’s life will be held at a later date.
