Nancy Jane Erickson

Mrs. Nancy Jane (Lindhout) Erickson, aged 75 of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 27, 2014.  She was the daughter of Herman and Arletta Lindhout, the wife of Robert Victor Erickson, all have preceded her in death.  She is the mother of Brenda Kay Posey (Malcolm Edward deceased), Robert Victor Erickson II, and Nicole Ann Romero.  She is the loving grandmother of Benjamin Zachery, Jonah Christopher, Julian Graham, and Henry Liam Posey, Holden Boyd and Graetel Rose Romero. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Sietsema; brothers-in-law, Dallas (Lucille) Erickson, Christell “Carl” (Helen) Erickson; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  Her many contributions to society laid in God’s world of music. She was a certified teacher of the Michigan Music Teachers Association, a member of the National Music Teachers Association, a member of the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs, the National Federation of Music Clubs and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.  Nancy was a Certified Approved Music Teacher of the American College of Musicians and a “Hall of Fame” teacher of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.  As an adjudicator, she judged for the National Guild of Piano Teachers, the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs and the Michigan Music Teachers Association.  She also was an Affiliated Teacher of Sherwood Music School of Chicago from which she had graduated.  Nancy served as Second Vice President, First Vice President and Junior Counselor of the St. Cecilia Music Society.  She was Gold Cup Chairman for the MFMC West Central District from 1981 to 2003 and also served many years as the Festival Co-chairman for the District.  Nancy was President of the Piano Teachers’ Forum of Grand Rapids and named “Teacher of the Year” in 1988 by the Piano Forum. Nancy was the founding President of the Grand Rapids Musicians’ League, 1989 – 1991. In 1999 – 2001 she had the honor of being the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs’ State President. She also had the honor of being listed many years in Marquis “Who’s Who in America”!  Her highest privilege however, was that of serving in the position of church organist from 1955 – 2008.  Her greatest gifts were God’s gift of Salvation, His gift of her loving family, wonderful parents, Herman and Arletta Lindhout; her devoted husband, Robert; her three loving children and her six precious grandchildren.  Funeral services for Nancy will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2900 Burton St. SE with Pastor David C. Fleming officiating. Interment in Holy Corners Cemetery. Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Caledonia), 616 E. Main St. on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Michigan or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
