
Lisa Fales, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. She graduated from Grandville High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University. Lisa completed the police academy in 1978 and began her career with the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, where she served as a Deputy in the Corrections Division until retirement. In that role, she worked in housing units, on the transfer crew and as court security.
Lisa enjoyed sewing and creating beautiful quilts. She loved listening to music and attending live band performances, particularly during her time in Florida. Family was central to her life where she hosted warm family gatherings and cherished every moment spent with her children, especially her grandchildren. She also had a passion for baking. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary. Family members and visitors alike always looked forward to sampling them whenever they stopped by her home.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and May Bedewitz; sister, Kathy Tuffs; infant brother, Bradley Bedewitz; brothers-in-law: Ken Jensen and Bill Tuffs; and sister-in-law, Valerie Bedewitz.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Fales; her children: Justin and Lauren Fales, Cole and Michelle Fales. She leaves behind three grandchildren: Kallie Fales, Karsten Fales and Ruby Fales; sister, Jackie Jensen; brother, Marc Bedewitz; brother-in-law, Lyle and Penny Fales; sister-in-law, Robin and Jeff DeYoung; along with seven nephews and one niece.
Memorial services will be held 11 am Thursday, July 30 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, July 29 from 6-8 pm and on Thursday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
