Michael Swanson

Help us celebrate the life and legacy of Mike Swanson. 

Michael Swanson, age 66, of Grand Haven, formerly of Manistee, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 15, 1958, to the late Charles and Joyce Swanson. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Josh (Kristi) Swanson, Mitch Swanson and his fiancé, Alex Amateis; his person, Kim Boersema; four grandchildren, Jamison, Scottie, Anderson, and Berkley; brothers, Charlie (Kathy) Swanson, Ron (Cindy) Swanson; sisters, Barb (Brent) DeVos, Patty Swanson; and many nieces and nephews. 

He started his career in accounting and later retired as a math teacher from Manistee Public Schools. He also carried his passion from teaching into coaching varsity golf for Manistee High School. He shared his passion for the sport of golf with many student athletes over the years. 

He lived life to the fullest. Whether he was traveling, trying something new, or simply sharing a laugh, he approached life with an open heart and fearless spirit. He brought light and joy wherever he went, and so many were lucky to experience that for themselves.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, at Kelloggsville Church, 610 52nd St. SE, Grand Rapids with Rev. Ron Fynewever officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Wednesday, July 30, from 4-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.
