August 14, 2026

Michael Lee DeJong, age 78, of Jenison, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 14, 2026. A loving dad and devoted grandpa, he treasured his family more than anything else. He was always supportive of their many activities and took particular joy in cheering on his grandchildren. His family knew they could always count on him to be present, encouraging, and genuinely interested in the things that mattered most to them.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, answering the call to serve with honor and dedication. He had a lifelong passion for racing, speed, and cars. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and spending weekends at Berlin Raceway. He also took great pleasure in driving his Corvette, enjoying every opportunity to experience the thrill of the open road.

Mike was blessed with the gift of conversation and had an ability to make a friendship within minutes of meeting someone. He took a genuine interest in everyone he encountered, making people feel valued and welcome. His smile, friendliness, and natural ability to connect with others left an impression on all who knew him.

He also had quite the green thumb, taking considerable pride in his landscaping and maintaining what was known as the greenest lawn in the neighborhood. Mike’s attention to detail and love of caring for his surroundings were evident in everything he did. Among his greatest passions was everything John Deere. He proudly embraced the famous saying, “Nothing runs like a Deere!”—a phrase he was always happy to remind his family and friends of.

After many years of dedicated service with Transnation Title Company, Mike retired and enjoyed the opportunity to spend more time doing the things he loved. Above all, Mike will be remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, his ability to make friends wherever he went, and the genuine interest he took in the lives of others. His laughter, conversation, passion for racing and cars, beautifully cared-for lawn, and unmistakable love of John Deere will live on in the many cherished memories he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lyn (Bunker) DeJong, and his special sister, Kathy DeJong. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michelle and Randy Bosse, Melanie and Mike Palasek; grandchildren, Rachael and Lee Kuperus,  Alexander and Marissa Palasek; his dear friend and companion of 6 years, Sharon McCormick; and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Lindsay Burkey        officiating.
