
Maynard “Mike” Vander Weide, age 91, of Jenison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Mike was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mike had a deep love for travel, and he and his wife, Evelyn, were blessed to visit all 50 states together before celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
He enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in being able to fix and build things. Mike worked as an electrician at the airport for 28 years, dedicating himself to his trade with skill and reliability. Around the house, he was always willing to lend a hand with repairs and remodeling projects. In his later years, Mike found joy in quieter hobbies such as knitting hats, working on puzzles and crossword puzzles, and spending time reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, and son-in-law, Donald Krueger. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sherri Krueger, Mark and Robin Vander Weide, Jim and Karen Vander Weide, Donna Faber; grandchildren, Nicole and Rudy Fleminger, Dana and Ryan Hartman, Justin and Jamie Krueger, Theresa Coleman, Tania and Matt Judd, Mark Vander Weide Jr., Amber and Devon Wustman, Brandon and Caitlin Vander Weide, Caleb and Meaghan Vander Weide, Adam Faber, Christin and Andy Luchies, Erin Faber, Genny and Isaac Stevens; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Carol Koetje; niece, Karen Kemme.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Ron Baker officiating. Burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Tuesday from 9:30-11 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Sunset Legacy Foundation.
