Maximo “Tony” Disla

May 17, 2025

Maximo “Tony” Disla, age 57, of  Grand Rapids, MI, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend on May 17, 2025.  Tony died a hero. While enjoying a day at a nearby river with loved ones, he noticed one of his young nieces caught in a powerful current. Without a moment’s hesitation, he leapt into the water and saved her life. In doing so, he made the ultimate sacrifice—giving his own life so that she could live.  That act of selflessness and bravery was not out of character for Tony—it was who he was. He was a man of unwavering courage, deep compassion, and a heart always ready to serve others. Whether helping a friend fix a car, making someone laugh with his outgoing personality, or simply spending time with his grandkids at the park, Tony’s presence brought warmth and strength to everyone around him.  He loved dancing, singing, and music, and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. His mechanical mind and tireless work ethic made him a go-to person in times of need. Above all, he cherished his family and lived his life in service to them.  Tony is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Garcia; his brother, Alexander Disla; and his nephew, Alex Disla. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 24 years, Silvia Disla; sons, Edwin and Yenifer Morales, Marvin and Connie Morales, Anthony Disla, Alan and Daniella Morales, Omar Disla and Alexandra Guerra-Disla; 13 grandchildren, Daniel, Janelle, Lydia, Noah, Allani, Analee, Jayden, Romeo, Iris, Anaiya, Zayr, Delleny, and Ariah; sister, Jaquelin “Yubi” Disla and Pedro Montero; Brother Jose Perez; sister, Janet Perez; mother-in-law, Maria Isabel Jaimes; father, Maximo Disla; niece, Delayna Disla; and many nieces and nephews.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at  St. Joseph the Worker, 225 32nd Street SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Jose Quintana officiating. Burial will be held at Georgetown Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 4-8 pm at  Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming.
