Maurice Lehmann

Maurice H. “Maury” Lehmann, age 96, born in Chicago, Illinois, went to his eternal home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, and his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley, who passed away in 2016. Surviving is his sister-in- law, Laurie Droge; his children and grandchildren, Ed and Deb Lehmann, Chadd and Patti Lehmann, Kelli and Brad Bramer, Kimberly and Brian Mitchell; Kim and Greg Martin, Katy Martin, Jeff Martin, Kris and Scott Terry; Matthew Lehmann, Evan Lehmann; Jonathan Lehmann and Lisa Lehmann, Noah and Paige Lehmann, Anneke Lehmann, Isabel Lehmann, Tahlia Lehmann; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Maury was a husband, father, grandfather, friend to many, businessman, and a Veteran of WWII. He sacrificially served his country and fought for freedom. He and Shirley owned a summer residence at Maranatha Bible Conference in Norton Shores, Michigan. They valued the opportunities for spiritual growth Maranatha provides, and have passed along this legacy to their children and grandchildren. Maury deeply loved his family, but above all else, he loved and remained faithful to his God. His earthly legacy was to be Heavenly minded. He served his church, Calvary Church of Grand Rapids, in many ways, throughout many decades. His greatest passion was to hear and witness God’s people express their worship of God through the singing of music, particularly the great hymns of the church. It has been said he was “Mr. Hymn Sing” of Grand Rapids, using his talents to lead Hymn Sings at Maranatha Bible Conference, Calvary Church, as well as many other churches since 1947. Maury was involved in the Christian music and publishing industry for most of his working life, establishing life-long contacts all over the United States. He never met a “stranger” and was endeared to so many people who never forgot him. His impact on others was significant, but his greatest desire was simple – to love God, to love people, to serve God and the church, and give all the glory to Jesus Christ.  Maury’s family believes he is no longer in his earthly body and is present with the Lord. A memorial service to celebrate Maury’s life will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 11 at Calvary Church, 707 E. Beltline Ave NE. The service can be viewed online at https://livestream.com/calvarygr/lehmann. Please use doors A or B. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maury’s memory may be made to Maranatha Bible Conference, 4759 Lake Harbor Rd., Norton Shores, MI 49441, and Calvary Church, PO Box 1600, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
