Mary Louise Haagsma walked into the arms of Jesus on the afternoon of Thursday, March 29, 2018. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Ann Vail and her great grandson, Benjamin James Klooster. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Jim Haagsma; her children, Fred and Lisa Vail, Dave and Joan Haagsma, Tim and Maxine Haagsma, and Bill and Susan Haagsma; 29 grandchildren through birth and marriage; 18 great grandchildren; and her siblings. Mary played the organ in her church for many years and enjoyed singing in the Calvin Oratorio Society. She also enjoyed painting and needlework. She will also be remembered for her jokes. She was a charter member of Hillside Community Christian Reformed Church, 1440 68th St. SE, Kentwood, where services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with Rev. Ron Kool and Rev. Caleb Walcott officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, April 2 at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to South Christian High School or Hillside Church.
