Mary A. Olmetti

Mary A. Olmetti, age 94, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021, in the arms of a loving friend. She was born September 8, 1927 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to the late Zacharia and Anna (Sbaizero) Zilli. Mary was a member of St. John Vianney Church, serving as a eucharistic minister and also served many funeral lunches. She was committed to her family in good times and hard times and beloved by all who knew her. She had a green thumb and was known by many as the “flower lady” since she enjoyed giving friends and family plants and flowers from her garden. She was an excellent Italian cook and “food is love.” Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent; brothers and sisters: Louis, Angelo, and Julius Zilli, Sandy Smith, Victoria Gage, and Jean Stipanovich. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Vincent Olmetti, Rebecca, Lonnie Olmetti, Cynthia and Michael Shick, Victoria Scalici, and Thomas Olmetti; grandchildren: Jessica and Ryan Kortman, Brianna and Ryen Burrus, Cierra Scalici, Shayna and Darin Alt, Sunnie Rae Raftery, Joseph Olmetti, Tory Olmetti, Nick Olmetti; many great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Delores Zilli and Marty Zilli; dear friend, Angeline Sassos; many nieces and nephews. In honor of Mary’s service to the church, a funeral luncheon will be held at St. John Vianney School Thursday, December 16, 2021 from noon to 1pm. Relatives and friends may also meet the family from 1:30-2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with a funeral service to be held 2 p.m. with Rev. John Vallier presiding. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. John Vianney Church.
