Marjorie Raab

Marjorie A. Raab aged 86 of Kentwood gently passed from this world surrounded by loving family on Monday, August 22, 2016. Her husband,Gene, and her daughter, Mary, tenderly cared for her for many years at home when she became severely disabled due to multiple chronic illnesses. She was preceded in death by her son, AF Lt. Col. David Raab; and parents Lester and Mabel Hilborn. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eugene “Gene” Raab; daughter, Mary Raab; daughter-in-law, Janelle Raab; granddaughter, Alexandra; brother, Dr. L. Bruce (Lois) Hilborn; sister, Marilyn Wales; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marjorie was recognized as a prominent dental hygienist in the Grand Rapids area during the long span of her career. Gene and Mary particularly want to recognize the many wonderful, caring aides who helped Marjorie over the years. Marjorie’s friends Pearl Clarke (A longtime bridge buddy!) and Marilyn Schwartz shared food, baseball games, and lively conversation that always left a smile on her face! Deep thanks to the entire staff at Gentiva Rehabilitation Services and Gentiva Hospice for their outstanding, attentive care. Funeral services for Marjorie will be held Friday at 11am at Park Congregational Church, 10 E Park Place NE, with Rev. Todd Petty and Rev. Sue Petro officiating. A celebration of Marjorie’s life and her and Gene’s 60 years of marriage will follow directly after the services in the Reception Hall at Park Church. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood), 4646 Kalamazoo SE on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, as well as Friday from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Gentiva Hospice, Parkinson’s Association, Arthritis Association or Park Church.
