Marion Julia Shimel

Marion Julia Shimel, age 98, of Grand Rapids, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Marion retired from General Motors after many years. She volunteered at Fr. Fred’s and the Cherry Festival for many years in Traverse City. She was also active at the Seniors Center. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Chester Stasiak, John Shimel; daughter, Colette Stasiak; grandson, Tony Stasiak; and all her siblings. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sharon and Greg Hoppe; Chester and Janis Stasiak; grandchildren: Michael and Paula Gardner, Stephanie and Tom Kipen, Robert Gardner, Lisa DeRuiter; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Rev. John Vallier officiating. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
