Margaret Schmitt

Margaret M. (Bidgood) Schmitt, age 72, of Manchester, GA, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Margaret was known for her strong work ethic and retired from National Nail in Wyoming after many years of dedicated employment. She found great joy in gardening and especially loved teaching others what she had learned. Family was always her top priority, with a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Kind and loving by nature, she had a deep love for animals and never turned away a stray, often caring for her beloved “porch kitties.”

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 51 years, Anthony; daughter, Missy Schmitt. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Anthony “TJ” and Anna Schmitt, Jeremiah Schmitt (Jennifer), Jeanette and Todd Gregg; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her siblings, Gerald Weirenga, Ronald Prill, Jacqueline and Michael Paglierani, Charles Bidgood, Terry and Dr. Sharon Siefert-Bidgood, Annette McCarthy; several loving nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Burial will take place at Kent Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Monday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
