Luke VanderMaas

Luke VanderMaas, age 78, of Jenison, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack and went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Wilhelmina VanderMaas; his brothers, Willem VanderMaas, Ron VanderMaas, Dick VanderMaas, and Bobbie VanderMaas; his sisters-in-law, Jayne VanderMaas, and Darlene VanderMaas; and his granddaughter, Jalyssa.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Vera; his children, Jack (Christine) VanderMaas, Dale (Sarajane) VanderMaas, and Brian (Tyla) VanderMaas; his grandchildren, David, Alan, Sarah, Ethan, Caleb, Lauren, and Blake; his brothers, Henry (Sandra) VanderMaas, and Case (Carol) VanderMaas; his brother-in-law, Ray (Carole) Smitter; his sister-in-law, Betty (Gary) High; as well as many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Sophie.

Luke served his country in the Army for 3 years and was proud to be a Veteran. He was a machinist for 51 years. Luke enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, scenic drives, hiking for waterfalls, was always willing to help others, and while wintering in Yuma, AZ, he enjoyed 4 wheeling in the desert with Yuma friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood Reformed Church, 2795 Rosewood, Jenison, with Rev. Howard Moths officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Rosewood Reformed Church and Wednesday from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
