Lorna Vander Vennen

Lorna (Rhoda) Vander Vennen, age 91, of Hudsonville, passed into Glory surrounded by her family on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Paul and Lina Rhoda. Lorna was blessed with a great sense of humor and an independent spirit that guided her throughout life. She found great joy tending to her garden and was gifted musically, beautifully playing both the piano and organ. She also shared a special love for dogs, which brought her much companionship and happiness over the years. Above all, she treasured the time spent and memories made with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Vander Vennen; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Bea Rhoda; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walt and Mary Decker. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Linda and John VanUffelen, Sharon and Daryl Kuiper, Cindy and Todd Miedema, Kathy and Jeffrey Terpstra; grandchildren, Dan and Kate VanUffelen, Lora and Adam VanUffelen-Ledwell, Jeff and Julie VanUffelen, Sarah and Kyle Kooienga, Kristin and Dan Kerkstra, Kate and Michael Boverhof, Jonathan and Laurel Kuiper, Kerrie and fiancé, Alex Swayze, Karissa and Joel Van Drunen, Melissa and Jake Baxter, Leanne and Nick Engelsma, Danae and Joe Broekhuizen, Travis and Bethany Miedema, Colten and Courtney Miedema, Lindsey and Blake Wieringa, Kelsey and Kyle Glass, Michael and Kelsey Terpstra, Melanie and Jeff Noorman, Allison and Josh Engelsma;  54 great-grandchildren with 2 soon to arrive; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Ed Toonstra; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and several dear friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at Georgetown Protestant Reformed Church, 7146 48th Ave., Hudsonville, where Lorna was a longtime member, with Rev. Carl Haak officiating. A private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. David Noorman officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Christian High School in Grand Rapids.
