Brett Thomas Dreyer, age 38, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on April 28, 2026. Born on October 29, 1987, Brett was a radiant soul who spent thirty-eight years teaching those around him that the most profound language is spoken through the heart.
Though Brett never spoke a word, he was a master of connection. His big, infectious smile and flirting eyes were his voice, lighting up every room and conveying a pure, unmistakable happiness. To be in Brett’s presence was to be truly seen and loved without the need for a single syllable.
He found his deepest peace and contentment in the simple rhythms of life. Brett could spend hours soothingly sorting his stones and dice, finding beauty and order in their weight and texture. These quiet moments of focus reflected his gentle spirit and his ability to find joy in the present. He was a constant reminder to his family and community to slow down and cherish the small, beautiful details of the world.
Brett’s light will continue to shine through his parents: Tom Dreyer (John Zombor) and Lory Kahrs. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Kelsey Dreyer; his sister, Carole Dreyer; and his cherished nephews: Henry, Charley, and Oliver. He will be deeply missed by his Kendall East family, especially Muaarijih, Gloria, and Susan, who lovingly cared for him these past few years. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a wide circle of friends who were lucky enough to be the targets of his flirting eyes and brilliant smile.
Brett was preceded in death by his grandparents: Thomas Dreyer Sr., Carole Page, Tom and Kay Lynn, and Earl and Sandy Race.
Brett was a gift who spoke directly to the soul. While he has moved on from this world, his family carries the warmth of his smile with them every day. He will forever be our giant little boy.
The family will hold a private service to celebrate Brett’s life. To honor the radiant light Brett shared with everyone he met, memorial contributions may be made to: Saint Mary's Foundation, with a kidney transplant designation (giving.trinityhealthmichigan.org) or Thresholds (thresholdsgr.org). Donations made to Thresholds in Brett's name will be utilized to support his former home, Kendall Home East.
