Lois Gort

Lois Mae Gort, age 95, of Wyoming, MI went to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Henry; parents, Casey and Jenny Quist; son-in-law, Hank Prins; sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Art) Niemeyer; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed (Marilyn) Gort. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Luanne and Jim Mellema, Dave and Dianne Gort, Sheri and Jeff Pulver; nine grandchildren, Rachelle (Rob) Koetje, Ryan Mellema, Mike (Holly) Gort, Kevin (Tracey) Gort, Jodie (Jeremy) Kramer, Jason (Holly) Gort, Henry (Nicole) Prins, Jonathan (Shelby) Prins, and Ben (Jennifer) Prins; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Maxine Bell; special friend, Arnie Huizenga; and several nieces and nephews. Lois was a faithful servant of the Lord and a Godly example of selflessness, humility, and grace. She cared deeply for everyone in her life and was a great role model for all to follow. She cherished her time at Sunset Senior Communities where she had many friends and became an active “social leader” there, including organizing the weekly Saturday night card game. She always encouraged faith and wanted everyone to know Jesus. Lois was an active member of Lee Street Christian Reformed Church in Wyoming, MI for 63 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Lee Street Christian Reformed Church, 1261 Lee St. SW, Wyoming with Pastor Kent Rottman officiating. Burial will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Thursday, January 18 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Potter’s House or Lee Street Christian Reformed Church.
