December 14, 2020

Leonor Saba Sarmiento, age 84, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and savior on Monday, December 14, 2020. She was the second of six children, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on May 6, 1936 to Milad Rachid, and Afife Malih Saba. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1977 as a single mom, looking to provide a better life and future for her daughters. After four years of hard work and learning the English language, she was able to save enough money to return to Argentina and bring her two daughters to America. Her heroism and acts of courage to move to a foreign land and start a new life on her own, will always be appreciated and valued. Her selfless love as a parent will never be forgotten. She will always be remembered as the picture-perfect mom, for her great example and dedication of what it means to be a devout parent. She ran the race with greatness, and has reached the finish line to surely hear, “Well Done, my good and faithful servant.” Leonor is preceded in death by her parents, Afife Malih Saba in 1984, and Milad Rachid Saba in 1990. She is survived by her two daughters: Monica (Nicolas) Muñoz, Gabriela (Kevin) La Pan; her four grandchildren: Christina La Pan, Andrés La Pan, Claudia Muñoz, Verónica Muñoz; great grandchildren: Brennan, Hunter; brothers and sister: Teófilo (Ana) Saba, Maria Boni, Jorge (Elsa) Saba, José (Noemi) Saba, Eduardo (Liliana) Saba; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to reminisce, grieve, love and comfort one another. According to her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Michigan Medical School.
