
Leonard Hernandez Savala, age 88, of Kentwood, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 20, 2020. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elodia; children: Leonard A. Savala, Jr., Robert and Virginia Savala, Susan Doublestein, Carmen Marie Pequeno, Dorrelia and Pedro Fabian; daughter-in-law, Marlene Pequeno, 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his children, Delmaria Savala, Santiago Pequeno, Jr.; siblings, Jesse, Carmen, Anthony, and Jenny, son-in-law Charles Doublestein. Leonard moved to Michigan in 1966 and became an expert welder at the GM Fisher Body (Grand Rapids Metal Fabrication) Plant. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather. Leonard loved to tinker and work with his hands. He taught his children and grandchildren to weld. He loved working on cars and teaching his sons to do the same. He was a “pistol” who loved to travel, fish, and dance. Leonard had a great sense of humor and was always happy. Family was extremely important to him and he loved participating in family gatherings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24 at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 3138 Birchwood SW, Wyoming, MI 49548, with Rev. Steven Cron presiding. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday at church one hour prior to Mass. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph the Worker Church.
