Leonard C. Russell, age 78, was called home on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 after a long battle with a lingering illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Kebrle; brother, Eugene Russell; several aunts and uncles. He served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1959. In 1980, he started his custom woodworking shop, retiring in 2002. His wife, Judy and best friend, William Ankin, were always with him right up to the end. He is survived by his three children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Metro Hospital along with Faith Hospice for making him comfortable in his last hours. We want to also express our love to William Ankin, his best friend, who took care of him every day with love, dignity and respect. They had a special bond in life few people will ever know. His brightest best days were spent with Bill. He gave him the encouragement and care only a true friendship can endure. Leonard will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Friday 4pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday from 3-4 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. A casual celebration of his life will be held at his home with friends and family on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice.
