Larry Groothuis

Larry Groothuis, age 78, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, and is now in Heaven walking with his Lord. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Larry proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Clarence Groothuis; brother, Bob Groothuis; sister, Pat Moon; and brothers-in-law, Leroy Kosters and Mel Krul. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Groothuis; children, Michael and Robin Groothuis, Amy and Cliff Westendorp, Robert and Tami Groothuis; grandchildren, Helen and Tim Dubbelman, Joshua Westendorp, Greta Groothuis, Samuel Groothuis, Matthew Westendorp, Isaac Groothuis, and Audrey Groothuis; sisters, Shirley Kosters, Donna Krul, Judy and Dave Hopkins, Nancee and Brian Ritsema; mother-in-law, Gesena Scholma; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jackie Groothuis, Jim and Lois Scholma, Joann and Phil Borgerding, Don and Sharon Scholma, Bob and Sue Scholma, Allen and Janna Scholma. Larry adopted the mission in his life to provide opportunities for Christians to honor the Lord by using their time, talents, and financial resources in service to others. He lived this mission in his 30 years of work at Victor Barnes and in his church and disaster relief work with World Renew. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021, at 11 a.m. at South Grandville Christian Reformed Church, 4130 Wilson SW, Grandville, with Rev. Dr. Daniel Mouw and Rev. John Witvliet officiating. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday, October 3, from 2-5 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to World Renew, Grandville Calvin Christian School, or Moline Christian School.
