Lacy Clayton Hendrick, age 98, of Wyoming, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023. Lacy was born to Richard and Edna (Bailey) on January 16, 1925 in Surveyor, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (Lekenta); daughter, Marianne; grandson, Jacob; two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by four daughters: Martha and Robert Bonk, Margaret and Roger Buenzow, Marilyn and Harry Hunter, Marie Jackobs; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers. Lacy graduated from Trap Hill High School and entered the Army in 1943, rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major, served in three wars, and worked in the JROTC program until 1995. He was in the famously decorated 82d Airborne Division during WW2 from Normandy to Berlin in the Engineer Battalion; the 187th Airborne RCT during the Korean War 7th Infantry Division, and the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Legion of Merit, Master Parachute Badge, two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart Medal, four Air Medals, Commendation Medals, among many other recognitions and honors. The family wished to thank Faith Hospice for their loving care of Lacy. Funeral service with military honors will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Burial at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-3 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
