Kathryn Durkin

Kathryn Durkin, age 46, of Grandville, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025. Family was always her top priority, and she cherished every moment spent with her nieces and nephews. Katie’s generosity extended beyond family, as she always made time for others. She had a rare gift of making everyone feel truly special. Her warm hugs were a signature of her love, and nothing ever felt like a burden to her, she was always the first to step in, no questions asked. Her laughter and smile were contagious, lighting up any room she entered. Above all, Katie was the most incredible mother anyone could ever ask for. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Mary Durkin, Thomas and Virginia Geary; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Katie will be remembered by her loving son, Liam Durkin; dog, Sloane; parents, William and Mary Durkin, siblings, Candice and Drew Baker, Mary Kate and John McGarry, Jessica and Benjamin Heilbrunn, Amanda and Brett Hogen; nieces and nephews, Caden, Benny, Johnny, Griffin, Mary Anne, Jimmy, Gavin, Thea, and Cecelia; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Katie's friends were more than just that, they were her chosen family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Basilica of St. Adalbert, 654 Davis Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, with the Very Reverend Ronald D. Hutchinson officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and on Friday from 9-10 am at church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. John Vianney Church, Basilica of St. Adalbert, God’s Kitchen, or Kid’s Food Basket.
