March 29, 2024

Kathleen “Kathy, Kay” Ponstine (Mulder), age 95, of Jenison, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jim and Judy Ponstine, Jack and Kris Ponstine, and Rick Ponstine; grandchildren, Mark and Laura Ponstine, Scott and Betsy Ponstine, Lisa and Mark Dykstra; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abi, and Isaiah Ponstine, Dominic and Grant Ponstine, Karis and Moriah Dykstra; sister, Mae Mulder; sister-in-law, Lois Mulder; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Lambert “Bert” Ponstine; her brothers, Henry, Art, Carl, Roger, and Cliff; sister, Lillian Westdorp; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Kathleen was born at her farm home in Prosper, MI and grew up in Vogel Center, MI. When she graduated from Northern Michigan Christian High School, she received a one year scholarship to attend Calvin College. She then taught first grade at Cutlerville Christian for one year. She met Bert after he returned from the Navy, and they were married on July 8, 1949. Throughout their married life, Kathleen and Bert loved watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports and perform the arts. They also enjoyed bike rides (usually followed by an ice cream cone), going on day trips, bus trips, and vacations, enjoying musical programs, and following Calvin Christian’s teams. Kathleen and Bert volunteered for the Family Network of Wyoming for 15 years. They would ask local businesses to place a donation canister on their counter and then go back once or twice a week to collect and count them. Kathleen and Bert were members of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church. Kathleen loved the Lord, she was a wonderful prayer warrior, and her life was a great example of a woman who walked with God. She was a wonderful blessing to her family, and they have many precious memories of fun family times together. The family thanks God for Kathleen’s outgoing personality, her patience, and her love for her Lord and her family. The family also wishes to thank Corewell Health Hospice and Sunset Manor for the loving care given to their mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 5250 Byron Center Ave. SW, Wyoming with Rev. Roger Groenboom and Rev. Hank Vlaardingerbroek officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Thursday, April 11 from 5-8 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. An additional time of visitation will be held on Friday from 10-10:45 am at the church prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Family Network of Wyoming or a Christian School of their choice.
