Juan Manuel Gonzalez, age 67, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on September 30, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Amada E. Gonzalez; children, Nelly Gonzalez, Raul (Holly) Monsivaes, Juan Jr. (Alma) Gonzalez, Robustiano (Marissa) Gonzalez, Rosario (Rosendo) Salazar, Lydia Gonzalez, Damian (Gale) Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez, Cesar Gonzalez, Blanca (Ramon) Gonzalez-Torrez; 15 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He was preceded into death by his parents, Robustiano Gonzalez and Flora Gutierrez; his father-in-law, Juan M. Gonzalez; and many other loved ones. He retired after 23 years from Rieth-Riley Construction Company where he cherished his lifelong friendships with his coworkers. Relatives and friends will gather to remember him on Sunday, October 2, from 2-5 PM with a Rosary Service to follow at 5 PM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 4, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 101 Hall St. SE, Grand Rapids, with Fr. Ted Kozlowski Celebrant. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Juan will be laid to rest in his home town of Los Nogales Nuevo Leon, Mexico, alongside his parents.
