Martha Visser, age 100, resident of Waterford Place, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 6, 2026. Immigrating to America from the Netherlands at the age of three, she embraced the opportunities of her new home while never forgetting the values and heritage that shaped her life. She devoted her career to education, faithfully serving as a lifelong educator in the Chicago area, where she inspired and encouraged countless students throughout the years.
She found great joy in traveling, creating treasured memories on many adventures with her dear friend, Babe. A longtime and faithful member of Fourteenth Street Christian Reformed Church in Holland, she generously shared her time and talents in countless ways, quietly serving others with humility and grace. Above all, her heart was devoted to advancing God's Kingdom. Her passion for Christian ministry was evident through her faithful support of Wycliffe Bible Translators and her commitment to Habitat for Humanity.
She was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: Jake and Jo Visser, George and Armentha Visser, Harv and Kate Visser, Betty and Henry VanNoord, Frank and Frances Visser, Fred and Gertrude Visser, Bertha and Ben Mast, Hank and Ruth Visser, Emma and Lewis VanNoord, Sylvia and Claude TerHaar, Ralph and Laura Visser.
She will be lovingly remembered by her many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Burial will take place at Jamestown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to World Renew.
