September 11, 2021

Joy (Hietbrink) Witte, age 82, of Wyoming, passed away unexpectedly of heart failure on Saturday, September 11, 2021. God sent his angels to transport Joy from earth’s time to heaven’s eternity. “No one who has left home for me and the gospel will fail to receive eternal life” (Mark 10:29-30). God designed and directed Joy to be a Christian school teacher, curriculum writer, resource developer, and learning coordinator. She left a legacy of creative service, using her God-given communication skills and encouraging spirit in Goshen, NY; Miami, FL; and Kalamazoo, Jenison, and Wyoming, MI. She enjoyed continued learning at Calvin College in Grand Rapids and also time away at Sandy Pines in Hopkins. Joy was a long-time member of Ivanrest Christian Reformed Church in Grandville and a supportive volunteer of AnchorPoint Christian School in Wyoming. Joy is especially remembered by her beloved family: Paul and Linda Witte of Hudsonville (Madalyn and Seth Hanstra and son Oliver, Trenten and Ariana Witte and daughter Gemma, Mason and Anna Witte); Lael Witte Mulder of Wyoming (Samuel, Emma and Cruz Garcia, Dayna, Maxwell); sisters-in-law, Ruth Witte of Grand Rapids and Mae Boersema of Jenison; nieces and nephews; and faithful friends. Joy’s precious husband, Paul, preceded her to eternity in 2005. Visitors are invited to greet the family from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, September 14 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A time of reflection for God’s gifts of earthly and eternal life will be held at the funeral home, on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a ministry gift to World Renew, 1700 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508, and/or give someone a needed word of encouragement. As Joy’s grave marker says, “Build each other up” (I Thessalonians 5:11).
