Josina Galaszewski

Josina  Galaszewski (Van den Meerendonk), age 71, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; and her parents, Antoinette and Lambertus Van den Meerendonk. In 1956, Josina and her family immigrated to the United States, residing in Detroit for 3 years before settling in Grand Rapids. She worked at Vander Veen’s Dutch store for 21 years until she retired. Over the years, she was active in the St. Isadore Auxiliary Guild along with her husband Edwin. She also enjoyed bowling, establishing many fun memories with her friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Josina and  Richard VanEss, Julie Murray, Jerry and Jamie Murray; her step children, Gary and Jeannette Galaszewski, Christina Galaszewski, Norman Galaszewski, John and Barb Galaszewski, Gloria Friend, Randy Galaszewski, Phil and Lisa Galaszewski;  grandchildren, Nathan and Alex Tanis, Rickie Ward, Andy Schubert, Nicklas Murray, Cody, RaeAnn, Casey, and Ryan Schoonmaker, Casey, and Dalton VanEss; her great grandchildren, Mason and Taryn; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sisters, Antoinette Van den Meerendonk, Johanna Marker; many loving nieces and nephews, and family members in the Netherlands. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson SW, Grandville, with Fr. Chris Rouech celebrant.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary service at 8 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. A visitation will also be held on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
