“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” JOHN 16:33 (KJV)
Joseph Edward Sibley of Wyoming, Michigan went home to the Lord on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the age of 63.
He was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Harold and Lois (née Gibbs) Sibley on June 26, 1958 as a three pound preemie. His size never stopped him and he grew with a larger than life personality, quick wit, a kind heart, and an amazing voice that served him well in the many years he worked on the radio and as announcer for various events.
Faith in the Lord was something that was important to Joseph. Something he lived by example in his life through all trials and tribulations he faced.
Joseph was legally blind and served two full terms as the President of MCBVI (Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired). He was an active member of VIPP (Visually Impaired Persons for Progress), and he was the Chairman on the project to bring MoPix to movie theaters in West Michigan. Most recently radio listeners got to hear him on MCBVI Radio with his weekly musically focused show “In The Basement with Joe Sibley”.
Alongside his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jerry Carlson, and his sister Jane Sibley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Sibley, his children, Richard (Brenda) Stafford, Timothy (Melanie) Stafford, Joseph Sibley, and Sarah Sibley; his step-children, Sarah MacDonald, and Kaitlyn Vaughan; along with his grandchildren, Megan, Mary, Kane, David, Drake, and Evan; and his great-grandchildren, Maddlynn, Rylee, Analise, and Azaria. Joseph is also survived by siblings, Mary-Janet (Larry) Losoncy, Terri Carlson, Cathy (Steve) Thomas, and Thomas (Mary-Dawn) Sibley; along with his “sister from another mister” Lisa Weber, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a kind and loving light to those who knew him in life with an incredible voice that will be missed by so many.
Services for Joseph Sibley will be held on Saturday, February 12th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 2670 56th St SW, Wyoming, MI 49418. A visitation with the family will begin at 10am, service will be at 11am (with Zoom option), and a luncheon to follow.
