John   Vander Schuur

John Vander Schuur, age 94, of Jenison, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 22, 2014.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Marcelo, his 11 siblings and their spouses, 2 sisters-in-law, and 2 brothers-in-law. John proudly served his country in the Army during World War II and was part of the invasion at Normandy Beach. Blessed with a strong work ethic, he retired from Steelcase after many years of faithful service. Above all, John was a kind, gentle, devoted man of God who exhibited the fruits of the Spirit in his daily living. He enjoyed serving his church by giving of his time and talents. His loving legacy will be remembered and treasured by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. John will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years, Betty Vander Schuur; his children, Jan and Dr. Doug Van Drie and their children, Sara, Aaron and Karen, Mario and PaYia, Jon and Devin, Elena, Jeremy, Anna and Chris, Cintia, James, Libby, Konika, Brandon, Karina and Reid; Joe and Aileen Vander Schuur and their children, Allison and Brent, Jesse, Joel and John; Lori and Les White and their children, Christopher and Micah; 22 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Margaret Vander Schuur, Bill Van Zalen, Connie Van Sledright; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. with Dr. Marvin Heyboer officiating.  Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 6:30-8 pm at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the service.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to World Renew or Christian Reformed World Missions.
