Larry Ray Swanson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born on February 12, 1946, in Flint, Michigan, to Dorothy Bigsby and Carl Swanson. Angels escorted Larry into the waiting arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Larry graduated from Southwestern High School in Flint. After completing his education he embarked on a diverse career that saw him contributing his talents to various fields. From working at General Motors in his early years to immersing himself in the world of sales, Larry’s professional journey was varied and fulfilling for him. One of the most cherished ventures was his involvement in the Grand Rapids based sketch comedy television series, “You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me America,” where his creativity and humor shone brightly.

In 1976, Larry married Sandra (Anderson) Swanson. Their nearly 50 years of marriage stand as a testament to their love and commitment. Larry’s children included Larry Ray Swanson II (from his first marriage); and Jeremy (Jayme) Swanson, and Jason (Therese)  Swanson, sons of Sandra and Larry. Larry loved spending time with his sons fishing, golfing, and skiing. He took great pride in his role as a father and grandfather of Joseph James Swanson and Lillian Paige Swanson.

Larry was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Church in Caledonia, Michigan, and the Life Group to which he belonged. He found solace and purpose in his faith and the fellowship they provided.

Larry was known for his quick wit and ability to uplift any room with a well-timed joke. These personal qualities endeared him to those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is one of laughter and love.

Larry is survived by his wife, his loving children and their spouses, and his precious grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Ken Nash officiating. The burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
