John Postmus

John Postmus, age 91, passed away surrounded by family after battling a short illness on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. John was born in the town of Leeuwarden, in the Netherlands and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan with his family in 1950 when he was a teenager. 

John was well known for his more than 30 years of dedicated work at WOTV Channel 8. Outside of his career, he found great joy in traveling the country with his wife in their motorhome, creating lasting memories along the way. He also enjoyed visiting with family, dining out with friends, playing card games, attending travelogues and the January Series at Calvin University, as well as going to various music concerts, which brought him much happiness throughout his life. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie (nee Van Dijk); daughter, Anita and son-in-law, Gerry MacDonald; parents, Clarence and Francis Postmus; siblings, Bea, Dirk, and Sid. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Tim (Amy) Postmus; grandchildren, John, Alyssa and T.J.; sister, Nancy; sister-in-law, Sjouk. 

A Memorial Service will be held at The Ridge at 2 pm on Thursday, May 21. The Ridge is located at 2772 Pfeiffer Woods Drive South-East, Grand Rapids, MI, 49512.
