
John K. DeHaan III, age 67, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. John began his love for the greenhouse at a young age while working with his dad at Westview Greenhouse and later opened Greenleaf Growers with his son, Nick and ran 2 West Greenhouse with wife, Lori. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, kids, or with close friends. He was able to travel throughout the United States, the Caribbean, and take special trips to Cancun. He loved adventures, being on the water, trail walking, hunting for petoskey stones, and any kind of fishing or activity outdoors. John cherished spending time with his children, going on fishing trips, spending time on the river, and working on projects. He dreamed big. He will be greatly missed for his big heart, his friendliness, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Harriet DeHaan. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Lori DeHaan; daughter, Erica and Jim Schmuker; sons, Nicholas DeHaan and Neil DeHaan; siblings, Mary and Louie Hubers, Pat and Ron DeYoung, Joan and Randy VanManen, and Tim and Carol DeHaan; as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Hanley Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Joseph Vanden Akker officiating. The burial will take place at Kent Memorial Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and one hour prior to the service at the church. The family requests that those who attend please wear a mask. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hanley Christian Reformed Church.
