John J. Cotts

John J. Cotts, age 99, of Allendale, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 19, 2018. John was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who cherished his family and truly loved his Lord, and life. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his yard, flowers, and vegetable garden. He always had endless energy and gave of his time and talents helping others with whatever project that was needed. The love of the outdoors always led him to many trips up north, enjoying the beautiful scenery of Michigan. He retired from GVSU where he enjoyed being able to work outside and meticulously care for the lawns and landscaping. He and his wife Jeanette enjoyed many winters in Florida, establishing many lifelong friendships. John gave in various ways of his time and talents serving his Lord at North Blendon Reformed Church, where he was the oldest serving member. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 75 years, Jeanette (Moerdyk) Cotts; daughters, Marcia and Woody Hoving, Cheryl and Nels Johnston; grandchildren, Leah and Mitch Stephens, Kristen and Brandon Smith, Michael Johnston, Chelsey and Tyler Vegter; 5 great-grandchildren; step-sister, Annie Vanden Bosch; his half brother-in-law, Sharon Schut; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and several dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at North Blendon Reformed Church, 7224 Taylor St., Hudsonville, with Rev. Nate Meldrim officiating.  Interment Allendale Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf (Allendale) 6651 Scott St.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living Center.  The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Sheldon Meadows for all the love and compassionate care given to John during his time there.
