
John Duane Hoeksema, age 56, of Hopkins, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 30, 2026. He was a dedicated employee of Witte Lawn Maintenance for over 30 years. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and metal crafting. He was a proud and loving father to his son, and had a special love for his dog, Piper. John was a devoted family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. He also took pleasure in the simple things, including a strong cup of coffee, iced tea, Peanut M&M’s, and Pop-Tarts. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary I. Hoeksema; and a best friend, Butch. He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Ryan Hoeksema; his parents, John and Mary Y. Hoeksema; sisters, Julie and Ron Oosterink, Joy and Tony Smit; brother, Jeff and Julie Hoeksema; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor Steve VanderWest officiating. A private burial will take place at Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
