John H. Vanderwey, age 85, a child of the King, was called home to be with his Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. “Home from the earthly journey, safe for eternity. All that the Saviour promised, that is what Heaven will be.” John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan (Harkema) Vanderwey. Together they raised eight children, Renee and Jim DeRuischer, Renita and Kevin VanSolkema, BettyAnn and Craig DeVries, Carla and Craig Baker, Henry and Anna Vanderwey, Steven and Susan Vanderwey, Ronald and Tammy Vanderwey, Evan and Jenny Vanderwey. John was humbly proud of all his 56 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as 15 grandchildren who joined our family by marriage. John was also loved by a special nephew, Henry Vanderwey and his wife, Nancy. John was lovingly cared for by his children and grandchildren the last years of his life for which we are so grateful. “The dead in Christ, now with their Lord in Heaven enjoy the bliss of joys that cannot dim! They see his face, His name is on their foreheads; they are secure, they are at home with him.” A private family graveside service was held at Georgetown Township Cemetery. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442 36th Ave, Hudsonville. The church will be livestreaming the service and it can be viewed via the church website at https://www.cornerstoneurc.com/. In lieu of flowers, gifts in John’s memory can be given to Gideons International or Cornerstone United Reformed Church.
