Werkema, Jean Eloise, age 85 of Byron Center went peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2020. Her faith, strength, generosity, and grace are just a few of the things that made her such an extraordinary role model to the younger generations of her family. She loved her family unconditionally, but did not mince words so you always knew where you stood with her. Even though we will miss her dearly, we know she is happy to be reunited with her son, Dennis, in heaven. Jean was born on December 31, 1934 to William and Florence Price. She met her husband, Arnold and they had three children together. They also raised Jean’s youngest brother, Charles. She was one of the first employees of Roger’s Department Store, retiring after 38 years as a vice president, manager and buyer of ladies sportswear. After retiring, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially all of the great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, William Price and Florence Price; her son, Dennis Werkema; her brother, William Price; and her sister, Patricia Williams. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 70 years, Arnold Werkema; her children, Arnold and Debra Werkema, Vickie Werkema, and Richard and Ann Morton; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; special brother, Charles and Yvonne Price; special niece, Chris VanRegenmorter, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home on Clyde Park on Friday, October 30 from 4-7. Due to Covid, a funeral for immediate family only will be held on Saturday, October 31 at 1pm with Pastor Justin Walker and Patrick Blanchard officiating. Interment Rosedale Memorial Park. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Kindred Hospice.
