Janet (Vredevoogd) Hopkins

April 25, 1949 ~
October 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness, yet with hearts full of gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet (Vredevoogd) Hopkins on October 30, 2026.

Above all, Janet loved Jesus, and her faith was evident in the way she lived her life. She carried a quiet, unwavering peace that seemed to surround her at all times. Even in the face of life's greatest challenges, that peace never left her. Her trust in the Lord, her gentle spirit, and the grace with which she faced each day were a beautiful testimony to her faith. Those who knew her could see the evidence of God's presence in her life, not just in her words, but in the way she loved others.

Janet was also a woman of incredible discipline and organization. She was intentional in the way she approached life, dependable in all she did, and someone who could always be counted on. Her dedication, strong work ethic, and attention to detail were qualities that carried into every part of her life including working at Spartan Nash for 42 years where she was known as a hardworking and dedicated employee and a wonderful supervisor.

Throughout her nine-month battle with cancer, Janet faced her diagnosis with remarkable resilience. She never allowed the hardships of her illness to dim the warmth of her smile or the depth of her love for her family and friends. Even through the most difficult days, she remained focused on the well-being and happiness of those she loved. Her instinct was always to think of others before herself.

Janet taught those around her what it means to love unconditionally, to welcome without judgment, and to meet life's greatest challenges with dignity, quiet strength, and unwavering faith. She reminded us that kindness doesn't have to be grand to make a difference; sometimes it is found in the simplest gestures, a warm smile, an open heart, or a willingness to make someone feel loved.

While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, the love she gave so freely, and the example she set for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

We find comfort in knowing that Janet's earthly struggles are over and that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Though we will miss her beautiful smile, loving heart, and the peace she brought into every room, we are forever grateful for the gift of having had her in our lives.

Janet will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the love she left behind.

Jan’s family wishes to thank Jodi Mallory, Comfort Keepers, and Faith Hospice for the love and care shown to Jan and her family during her final months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Wilma Vredevoogd; her former husband, Dennis Hopkins; and her daughter-in-law, Susan Hopkins.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lori (Russell) Bloomer, Dennis Hopkins Jr, Robert (Tricia) Hopkins, Vickey Hopkins; grandchildren, Nicholas (Mandy) Hopkins, Travis (Julia) Hopkins, Troy (Katie) Bloomer, Hollee Hopkins (Kyle Smith), Carley Hopkins, Joscelin, Stuart, Jade Gould; great grandchildren, Jordyn, Aubree, and Kyler Hopkins; siblings, Bonnie (Dale) Kerkstra, Jack (Peggy) Vredevoogd, Sharon (Les) Holwerda, Richard (Sue) Vredevoogd, Scott (Linda) Vredevoogd; and she was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
