James William Holzgen, aged 70 of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Katherine Holzgen; sister, Terri Ayers; and brother, Gary “Pete” Holzgen. He is survived by his sons, Jim (Shelli Regan), Chad (Erin); grandchildren, Travis, Alex, Kathleen, Rebecca; sister, Beverly Holzgen; nephews, Jacob, Andrew, Ethan, Brady and Tucker and cousins. James proudly served his country in the US Marines during the Vietnam Era. People knew James by his nickname of “Smiley.”James enjoyed watching all of his favorite sports teams, most notably the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers, He was also a devout member of the American Legion and Amvets, where he will be loved and missed. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming with Fr. Jegar Fickel presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, on Tuesday from 5-8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
