James W. Tamminga

James “Jim” W. Tamminga, age 84, entered into his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. He was born in Friesland, Wisconsin to the late Taeke and Jennie Tamminga. Jim was an educator and a Grandville Public School Administrator for over 30 years. He loved teaching children to read. Jim was an avid competitor when enjoying golf, bowling, fishing, and playing card games with his family and friends. Faith was important to him, and he enjoyed his Friday morning Bible studies. Over the years he enjoyed traveling with his wife and especially spending winters in Bradenton, Florida. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Ella Anderson. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Mary Tamminga; daughters, Ellen and Martin Meleen, Susan and Randy Cotts, Michelle and Chris Tsirlis; seven beloved grandchildren; two special great-grandchildren; siblings, Janice Postma, Mary and Calvin DeVries, Warren Tamminga; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021, at Fellowship Reformed Church, 6610 36th Ave, Hudsonville, with Pastor Shawn Hulst officiating. Burial will take place at Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, November 24 from 5-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and one hour prior to the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to David’s House Ministries.
