James R. Root

James R. Root “Jimmy Rae”, age 89, left this life to join his wife, Marilyn, in heaven on Monday, October 16, 2023. He is survived by three children and 7 grandchildren: son, David (Erin) Root and his sons Jeremy (Kaileigh) Root, Christopher (Beth) Root and William Root and stepdaughter, Brooke; daughter, Lynda Root Coy and her children, Scott and McKenzie Coy; son, Jimmy (Jane) Root and his daughters, Madison, and Sarah Root and stepchildren Emma Macke (Jeremy) and Chris Fisbeck and two great grandchildren, Myles and Isabelle Root. Jim found his way back to the Catholic Church and was strong in his faith. The love of his family and many dear friends kept him going as his health began to fail. A memorial celebration service will take place according to Jim’s wishes at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Kentwood) 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. on Saturday, October 28. Visitation with the family will begin at noon with a service beginning at 1:00 pm followed by refreshments at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, you can make a contribution in Jimmy Rae’s name to a charity. He had many charities he would give to and the three he seemed the proudest of, are the following: American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 30280, Lansing, MI 48909-7780 (for mom), Covenant House, 26 Antoine St. SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49507 (for the homeless), St. John Vianney Parish, 4101 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, MI 49509 (for Jesus).
