James “Jim” A. Wagner, age 76, of Grandville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 7, 2019. His parents, Milton and Connie (VanWyk) Wagner preceded him in death. He will be missed by his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Mohr) Wagner; his daughters, Jennifer and Tom Vanden Bosch of Jenison, Jodi and Tim Koster of Hudsonville; his son, Joel Wagner; his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Nicole and Cameron Minney, Nathan Vanden Bosch, Lauren Koster, and Anna Koster; brothers, Dave Wagner, Bob and Idelle Wagner; brother-in-law, Dick and Arlene Mohr; and his nieces and nephews. Jim proudly served in the Michigan National Guard in the 1960’s. For 30 ½ years, he taught at Forest Hills Central Middle School and taught Driver’s Ed for many summers.  His love of playing sports led to a career in coaching football at Forest Hills Central High, the former Rogers High, and Grandville Christian High Schools, as well as, JV baseball at FHC.  After retirement, he worked various part time jobs and enjoyed mall-walking and bowling.  Jim was an avid fan of MSU and WMU football, the Detroit Tigers, and an ever hopeful Lions fan.  He was a longtime member of Hope Christian Reformed Church, where he served as usher for 38 years. A time of visitation with his family will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, from 4-9 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Private services will be held with burial at Grandville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider Faith Hospice or Special Olympics Michigan.
