James G. Carter

James Gordon Carter, aged 83 of Alto, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Carl Carter.  He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Blanche Lorraine Carter; children, Cindy (Mark) Keegan, Mike (Pat) Carter, Marc Carter; grandchildren, Ashley Carter, Marc Jr. (Lacey) Carter, Blake (Chloe) Carter, Kristen White-Baker, Patrick Carter, Travis Carter (fiancee, Chelsea), Laura (Brandon) Burpee; ten great-grandchildren.  Jim retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant and served during Vietnam and Korean Wars.  He later worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  He was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge #637 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking,  gardening and having morning coffee with his friends.  He was active volunteering at Caledonia United Methodist Church, where the funeral services will be held Monday at 1 pm (250 Vine St.), with Rev. Jodie Flessner officiating. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.  Members of the family will receive relatives and friends at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Caledonia), 616 E. Main St. on Sunday from 2-5 pm.  The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.
