James Davidson

James A. Davidson, age 81, of Grandville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Jim persevered in spite of his disabilities of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and later vascular dementia. Jim was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Western Michigan University, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He went on to work for many years as controller at Weller Auto and Truck, a job he thoroughly enjoyed.

Jim did not like to sit still. He loved to work, to tinker, to fish, and to tend his yard, and he taught his children a strong work ethic by example. He was a loyal Detroit Lions fan even through all the losing years. He was never quick to anger, always accepting, and had an easy smile that stayed with him to the end. He especially adored his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Alice Davidson. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; his children and grandchildren, Ross and Heidi Davidson (Elena, Micah, Ian, and Grant), Brian and Andrea Davidson (Mason, Max, and Evalyn), and Amy and Philip Bierling (Henry); his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Leon Masengale, and Sally and Bob Lyons; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Corewell Health Hospice for their care.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 8541 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, with Pastor Karis Mpindi officiating. A private family committal will take place at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Friday, October 2, from 4-7 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and on Saturday from 1-2 pm at church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Byron Center Young Life.
