Jacob Schierbeek

Jacob Schierbeek, age 87, of Hudsonville, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. Surviving are his daughter, Nancy and Bob Koorndyk; and son, Reg and Jerene Schierbeek; grandchildren, Heather and John Steenstra, Adam and Nichole Koorndyk, Alicia and Seth Sheeran, Tracy and Paul Gehm, Kara Schierbeek and fiancé David Gorney, Blake Schierbeek; great grandchildren, Jacob, Davin, Tinley, Marina, Geordie, Ezra, Parkes and Bridger; brothers and sisters, Anna Mae Cook, Henry and Dorothy Schierbeek, Ted and Muriel Schierbeek, Nelvah and Don Agema, Kathryn Sikkema, Georgie Laarman; and many nieces and nephews. Jacob was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Ethel; brothers and sisters, Bessie and Ken Hamming, John and Grace Schierbeek, Jennie and Harvey Bolkema, Peter and Camielle Schierbeek; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Ted Cook, Jay Laarman, Percy and Maxine Laarman, Peter Sikkema. Jacob proudly served his country as a paratrooper during the Korean War. A celebration of life service will be held 6 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Friendship Christian Reformed Church, 190 100th Street SE, Byron Center, with Pastor Cal Compagner officiating. Interment Lucas Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW and Monday from 5-5:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
