Jack Smith

Jack Smith, age 88, of Kentwood, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, February 19, 2021. He proudly served our country in the US Air Force for 23 years during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a dedicated US Postal Service employee, retiring in 1986. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Burt Smith; and his sister, Luella. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Ellen; children, Thomas (Cindy) Smith, David (Missy) Smith; six grandchildren; brothers, John (Mary Ellen) Smith, Jimmy (Shirley) Smith, Melvin (Janice) Hager; sister, Betty Holmes; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Jack was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. He developed a strong work ethic in the Air Force and passed that way of life onto his sons. In his early years of marriage, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and outdoor activities. In his later years, he enjoyed playing the lottery. Visitation will be held 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 26 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave., Kentwood. Due to gathering restrictions, there will be a limit on the number of people who may enter the building at a time. A graveside service and military honors will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, immediately following the visitation.
