Jack Arthur Smith

Jack Arthur Smith, aged 84 of Wyoming, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jack Aaron Swick. Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly; children, Eileen (Jerry) Schneider, Anita Smith, Betsy (George) VanderLaan; grandchildren, Nathan (Jessica) Schneider, Rose (Nathan) Schlappi, Rachel (Steve) Hooper, John (Christina) Koops, George VanderLaan IV; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, James Smith, Kay Henderson, Tim (Ruth) Smith, Dorothy (Maury) Cheadle, Mary (Doug) Snyder, Joyce Roberts; sister-in-law, Nora Hagedorn; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Jack was a Golden Gloves boxer. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from General Motors and served as president of UAW Local #167. Jack proudly served in the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Drive, Grandville with Rev. Don VanSlyke officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
